premature loss

All mothers share with certain knowledge, that the unimaginable pain of holding a premature, newly born baby, as its fragile, perfect body, loses its fight to stay alive. That the grief of that loss, the loneliness that it wrenches from your soul, as it twists everything into a living mass of endless grief and sorrow; that there can be no lonelier feeling in the world because in the moment of your deepest despair, you feel abandoned, even by the God you once thanked for the blessing of allowing you to carry the tiny life inside of you, that you now allow a stranger to take away, cold and lifeless, from your empty arms.
