neglect trumps abuse

When you are repeatedly hurt as a child

It forces you to retreat inside of your head

You fiercely protect the ember of your soul

You bury it deeply inside of a shrivelled heart

Refusing to weep and bring her the satisfaction

Learning sarcasm to mask fear and hatred

Desperately seeking to remove yourself

Pretending to be anyone you admire or created

Instead of the broken unwanted child you are

The fear and confusion that gets masked with laughter, the pain hidden behind tongue in cheek. Show what is more comfortable for others to deal with; lest you shoud scare them with the reality.
